Special Kids Family Days

Part of being a member of Special Kids in the UK includes the ability to come along to our get togethers. These are usually arranged by a member, one of our volunteers or a Trustee. They take place all over the United Kingdom and can range from going to special needs activity centres, a day at the zoo or even swimming. Subject to eligibility criteria, Special Kids subsidise these days in order to allow members to attend.

Disability Challengers, Guildford
Our family days give our members the opportunity to meet other parents/carers of children with additional needs. Many good friendships have been born from them and people always come back with tales to tell.

Duckys Farm, Cumbria
The children who have special needs thrive on meeting others and enjoy the fun as much as the adults and the Siblings too! We have found that many of our children who are brother or sister of a child with special needs enjoy spending time with others who have similar circumstances. Many friendships have been forged on top of a fallen tree or two!

Special Kids Annual Family Day 2007

High up making balloon animals
Every year we hold an annual family event where many of our members attend for the day or in some cases, camp out for a few days. In 2007 we went to South Derbyshire and organised a free fun day for our members and their families at the campsite some of us were staying at. Over 200 attended the day and over 30 families camped. We laid on quad biking, bouncy castle and ball pond, arts and crafts, face painting, hair braiding, temporary tattoos and nail varnishing! A children's entertainer kept the children amused with a circus skills workshop , balloon animals and even a giant bear came to visit!

Jack enjoys his trike
We were also fortunate to have Malcolm from Wisewheels with us and some of his trikes as well as Orthodocs with their safe space designs and Racketys, who produce clothes for special needs children and adults. The sun shone and everyone had a great time.
Livvy lies back whilst dad does all the hard work!

And we are off!
Part of the day included a sponsored walk/trike/wheel/be pushed for the children. Plod for pounds took them nearly a kilometre around the site and they all got a medal and a lolly for their efforts!
